Batman

            A hero to me is someone who risks his life for good, but not for fame or money.  Batman fits this perfect.  Batman, a fictional character in a DC comic, is also known by Bat-man, the Batman, the Caped Crusader, the Dark Knight, and the World’s Greatest Detective.  His real identity is Bruce Wayne: a millionaire, industrialist, and philanthropist.  Having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child, he swore revenge on crime, an oath tempered with the greater ideal of justice. Wayne trains himself both physically and intellectually and puts on a bat-themed costume in order to fight crime.

            Unlike all of the other super heroes Batman stands out.  Batman doesn’t have any super powers; he isn’t stacked with powers like superman.  Batman fights like a ninja, with stealthy approaches and quick powerful hits.  He also uses a cape to glide, ninja stars, his super high tech Bat-mobile and plenty of other devices.  He trains himself so he could fight crime, he doesn’t just receive his powers from a random source.  Superman is plain out stacked with strength, invulnerability, flight, speed, X ray vision, heat vision, super breath, super hearing, super vision, super human smelling, perfect memory, and teleportation. Superman makes me sick because of all his powers.  So out of all of the super heroes he and Ironman fit these characteristics, but Ironman reveals his secret identity just to receive more fame.  Batman on the other hand never reveals his identity. This shows how Batman doesn’t need to be greedy and recognition to feel good.

            Batman can inspire people in many ways.  People won’t start disguising themselves and go fight crime, but they will be inspired by things between the lines.  Some of them include: fighting crime (as in a police man), doing what’s right without needing to receive credit or fame, and how to work hard.  Also Batman can simply provide entertainment for thousands of people, just as it has for a long time. These are just some of the many things that Batman can teach. For me Batman gives me entertainment.  I love just sitting down and watching all of his movies.  Whether it may be my favorite “The Dark Knight”, the funny Adam West Batman, or even the worst one “Batman and Robin” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and George Clooney.  Batman makes me happy, which makes him one of my heroes.

My Writing Adventure

            My journey toward writing first took place when I was a young chap.  My mother would read me my favorite books, Dr. Seuss.  They had a positive influence on my writing.  I didn’t start actually writing until about preschool.  I was a very competitive boy and one could say I was a teachers pet.  I loved getting praise from my parents and teacher.  Whenever we learned something new like the letter A, I would go home and practice writing that letter.  Other than that I wasn’t the kind of a kid to put my imaginative thoughts on paper; I was more of the kid who would get his brother and play games with those ideas.  I did things like sword fighting as pirates to digging for me booty! 

            My writing career actually started when I was about in sixth grade.  My teacher, Mrs. Hansen, would give us about ten new vocabulary words each week.  She would then make us write a story on anything I desired, as long as it used all the words.  Now this was heaven for me, because I hate when teachers give you a topic to write on.  It makes me feel like my thoughts are caged in and I can’t use my creativity.  When thinking of these stories I used every ounce of my wacky imagination.  For the first time I enjoyed writing and I couldn’t wait for the teacher to read mine.  I am especially proud of one of my stories called, The Island.  This was no ordinary story; this story was like pure awesomeness!  The plot of this story came from my dream one night.  I took that dream and expanded on it and I had this visual movie of it replaying in my head.  I thought this story was going to be so good that my teacher would get it published, it would be a best seller, and they would make a movie about it.  When writing this paper I was disappointed on my limited time, so I was forced to summarize it and cut it short.  This moment of my writing was the climax of my journey.  After that my like for writing has slowly dwindled.

            I use writing almost everyday.  Whether it is writing my name or writing secret notes to a friend in class.  My present writings have lost their zing.  I am too worried what the teacher will think that I am afraid to challenge my self and risk my grade.  I also tend to lose my personality when talking to teachers.  When the audience is my friends I am more likely to fill it up with personality and jokes.  I think one of the most important aspects in writing is to entertain the reader; I hate when kids get up and put me to sleep.  I also hate writing with light colored pencils; it has to be either a pen or a pencil with dark led.  Writing takes a lot out of me, so I have to take T.V./food breaks. 

            I have some stuff I hope to improve on. I hope to use more voice in my essays and to make it more enjoyable for the audience I’m writing for.
